Transform picky eating into fun food adventures with Junior Chefs Kitchen deconstructed recipe book for selective eaters.

Let's explore further

Junior Chefs Kitchen is a children's culinary school in Chicago. Throughout the process of starting JCK, while raising my own three kids, we have recipe tested these across 2,000+ of the most selective eaters. Rest assured, you're in good hands.

The founder - Niki

As a mom of three kids (ages 10, 8 & 6), I have been at the dinner table, ready for battle.

“ew, that looks gross!”

“why does that smell weird”

"what is that green thing?!'

“why can't you just sit still!”

The mealtime NEGOTIATORS

It wasn't until we sought the help of Occupational & Speech Therapists that we learned more about how to NOT control mealtimes but focus more on the joy & exploration.

The method

We learned about the Ellyn Satter method & this really clicked for us. We don't pick “fads” or “diets” or subscribe to grifting influencers but what stuck and was easy to digest (ha! pun intended) was the Satter Division of Responsibility - she is a Registered Dietitian and has decades of experience as the authority on eating and feeding. She would be a dream come true to meet!

The responsibility

The Parent is responsible for what, when and where and the child is responsible for how much and whether of eating.

MEET jck's founder - niki cordell

We foster friendships & creativity with food. Trying new foods can be intimidating and we just make it fun.

I have fond memories of sitting at the kitchen island, doing my homework while my dad cooked dinner. We weren't super adventurous eaters but the memories of mealtime were enjoyable. Somewhere along the way, I feel we've lost that art of coming together over a meal with our family. As a working mom (I left my corporate job 1.5 years into founding Junior Chefs Kitchen), I was tired of cooking and getting the side eye at dinner time or worse, tears and arguments over the meal I just spent 30-40 mins making was arguably “gross" & unfamiliar.

Over a few years of working with Occupational and Speech Therapists we learned an incredible amount of how to interact with children and food. How to approach new foods - with curiosity and no control.

I am proud that over the past (almost) 2 years while JCK has been open, we have tested these super yummy recipes with the pickiest of eaters, over 2,000+ children. I am here to share these with you in the hopes of alleviating exhaustion at the end of the day when you want to create happy memories and full bellies.
